The History of Prime Time
Jefferson County's seniors have wanted a center where they could congregate, socialize, and take an influential part in community programs. Prime Time became a reality on July 21st, 2013, where a Prime Time Center formal dedication took place. On August 1st, 2013, the Center opened for service. This dream became possible with the Temple Beth Israel's purchase by the Tri-State Health Services Inc. Since then, the program had developed as Prime Time Office on Aging. The Center has provided meals and transportation services for Jefferson County since 1988. Prime Time is the first county-wide senior activity center available in Jefferson County. Over the past few years, the Center's success is because of the dedication of its members (more than 2000 of them) and the commitment of the Prime Time Office on Aging staff. The Center's mission is to keep people healthy, independent, and productive (HIP). We offer our members many services, such as health and wellness programs, educational opportunities, arts, crafts, social and community action opportunities, and meal and nutrition programs. The Center is one of nine meal sites in the county that hosts lunch every weekday. The kitchen at the Center prepares meals for all nine sites in Jefferson County.
Its members' requests and needs have driven the Center's programs with social groups that include gardening, crocheting, sewing, cards, line dancing, exercise, Bible study, crafts, scrabble, dominoes, billiards, and ping-pong, as well as support groups for mended hearts, grief management, diabetes, and Parkinson's. The Center's future will continue to grow and develop because of the commitment and generosity of the people in Jefferson County.
